The uMgungundlovu Environmental Health Assistants win the Award of Excellence.

The Group of six Environmental Health employees (Lucky Madibe, Petros Dube, Porritt-Jones Dhladhla, Thulebona Duma, Mlekeleli Mchunu and Bhekuyise Madlala) of uMgungundlovu District Municipality win during the World Tobacco Day held at the Ingwanyama Conference Centre (Mpumalanga Province) on the 26th September 2016.

The group took the title home for their outstanding Health education intervention strategy programme of which would monitor but go in depth in preventing contamination of the Midmar Dam by sewer discharges which were occurring in the Mphophomeni township.

 

The program also included the involvement of youth community called Enviro Champs who were trained on the environmental issues affecting the area and health of the community at large. The programme resulted in satisfactory results such as improved waterborne system,fully functioning, and the reduction of foreign objects that were disposed in manholes.
