Last week 26 May 2017, uMgungundlovu District joined millions of other Africans to celebrate Africa day. Africa Day, it presents an opportunity for South Africans to reconnect and recommit themselves in support of all government interventions to develop a better Africa for the world. Africa Day Celebrates the day when the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), the precursor to the African Union (AU), was formed in 1963.

uMgungundlovu District Municipality Honorable Mayor Cllr T.E Maphumulo congratulates all the children who competed and those who won the championship in the KZN SALGA Games which was hosted by the uGu District Municipality from the 8th to the 12 of December where 11 districts competed for the number one spot in the 16 sports codes, Athletics, Basketball, boxing, chess which is the new kid on the block, cricket, dance, soccer, golf, indigenous games, karate, netball, rugby, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
uMgungundlovu District Municipality received the 2nd overall position in the SALGA Games for the third time since 2014 and also bringing home three gold championships in Netball Males, Rugby Males, and Dance sports.
Honorable Cllr T.E Maphumulo congratulated all the children who have represented the District Municipality in the SALGA games, and thanked them for all their best efforts that they have invested in ensuring that the District stays in the 2nd position. Maphumulo added that as the District we wish all other District especially eThekwini Municipality for obtaining the first position in the overall position. This ensures that hard work does indeed pay. Parents should continue to support their children to play sports as this will keep them away from Drugs and other harmful pressures from the community
Umgeni Water conducted a planned maintenance shutdown in Midmar Waterworks on 22-23 November 2016. However Umgeni Water's main pipe that pumps water to all our customers burst and their technicians have been working to repair it. uMDM EXCO together with the Infrastructure Committee together with Amakhosi today conducted a door to door campaign at kwaNguqa led by uMDM Mayor Maphumulo and Impendle Mayor Ndlela. The public engagement started off at Kikiza Primary School where local community gathered. Mayor Maphumulo reiterated the role of uMDM and ensuring that as the District we deliver water and sanitation programmes.

Mayor Maphumulo explained the recent demarcation of the area which now falls within Impendle and the District. The role for the Mayoral delegation is to visit the area and know the newly demarcated area and also know what socio-economic challenges saved by the public and to be able to mitigate and be able to implement projects that will assist the public with service delivery.

FORMER uMDM SPEAKER RE-ELECTED
A special Full Council was convened at uMgungundlovu District Municipality today (07 October 2016). This follows after Councillor Yusuf Bhamjee (former Speaker) was redeployed to the Provincial Legislature on Tuesday 04 October 2016.
At the Full Council, Councillor Edward Dladla was unanimously elected to be the District’s Speaker, while Councillor Dan Ndlela will take over the reins and become the Chief Whip.
