uMgungundlovu District Municipality and Santam Partnership
This Memorandum of Agreement that was signed today, marked a three year partnership between the two parties, which kicked off with fire services and disaster management equipment to the value of about a million rand, delivered to the District Municipality Santam will also be assisting with programmes to capacitate the disaster management unit to be able to deal effectively with floods, as the District is prone to floods, as well as climate change management programmes to assist the municipality in coping with demands of managing eventualities that occur as a result of climate change.
In his address, Dr Khangale said they have worked with 82 Municipalities throughout the country, and last year they signed an MOA with eThekwini Municipality. He said "we are very encouraged by the cooperation that we are getting politically and administratively in this municipality. We are looking forward to a very successful partnership"
In his address , the Mayor expressed his excitement about this partnership saying, "you know, it is one thing talking about Public Private Partnership, and many people can tell you so much from reading about it, but they have no experience of it, they have never touched it. Here we are experiencing Public Private partnership in action" He emphasized that this partnership will benefit all municipalities within the District, including Msunduzi, much to the delight of the leadership of Local Municipalities who were present. "Our District is mostly rural, and through this partnership, people in these rural areas will experience services that are up there in terms of quality", concluded Nxamalala.
